Which kinds of buildings score best and worst?
Among property types with at least 100 disclosed buildings, multifamily (5+ units) buildings post the highest average ENERGY STAR score (92 across 156 scored) and worship facility buildings the lowest (50 across 686). The all-building average is 70. By site energy-use intensity, data center buildings are the most energy-intensive type (504.4 kBtu/ft² on average) and self-storage facility buildings the least (9.4 kBtu/ft²).
How are the buildings organised?
Every building belongs to the jurisdiction whose law it reports under; New York City (48,310), California (40,029) and Los Angeles (11,498) hold the most. Each city hub lists its most and least efficient large buildings, its biggest emitters and a page for every property type with 25 or more buildings, and each building page links to same-type buildings of similar size and to nearby buildings where the source publishes coordinates. New York City's average site EUI of 77.0 kBtu/ft² is about 19% above the all-jurisdiction 64.9 kBtu/ft².
